I checked one of my newer heads and Chevy used lifting plates bolted to the head.
Front plate uses the two holes on right side of head where Battery neg cable typically attaches.
The rear plate attaches to a single hole that the older heads don't have.
The 64 Chevelle shop manual shows a lifting device which seems to require removing two head bolts and attaching two long eyebolts.
The center portion has two short chains with hooks.
I use the last intake manifold attaching hole in back and one of the holes on right front of head. To this I attach a chain I've marked for "engine only" or "engine with tranny attached" so engine goes in or out at proper angle the first time.
(I use a hyd. eng. crane and mark chain links where I need to attach to hook.)
Fortunately we can't use those intake manifold plates. As many flea mkt intakes I've seen with munged threads I'd be scared to dangle an engine by it's intake!
