I've been working on the same project too long and not consistent enough to get it done. Here is what I've learned so far. The 292 block is taller than the 250 by about an 1 3/4 inches. I've got brackets from a 250 and welded the 1 3/4 on the bottom of the alternator bracket and that seems to have got the alt up to were it will fit the adjustment slot on the bracket. I'm sure that has changed the belt size, but how much I'm not sure yet. It's not just a matter of brackets either. To make life easy you need to get all of the pulleys too so they line up, which is were I'm at. Another consideration is if have headers or plan on headers most of the brackets I've see so far are going to require mods to clear the headers and possibly the temp sender on the 292. I've picked up some brackets from possibly a step van on ebay that may eliminate the header clearance problem. Wish I could post some digitals but that another problem right now.
