Hey guys,

I've got a question regarding Chevy heads. It's my understanding that the 235-250-292 heads all interchange, but what, if any, are the actual differences between them (ie. static compression or chamber volume) and is one better to work with than the others ?

More specifically, I'm building a 292 and have the choice of using the 292 head or a 250 head. Presuming that they both pass visual inspection and magnaflux is one a more preferential candidate for porting, lumps etc.than the other and why ?

Thanks,

'Crockett

Thanks, It's a start . . .

I'm still wondering if one is a more suitable candidate than the other. Any difference in casting quality, thickness or strength ?

According to Leo Santucci the earlier U.S. made head, (as opposed to Mexican produced) has more structural rigidity. Would highly recommend his book- Chevrolet Inline Six-Cylinder Power Manual. It is available thru Club Stuff in the blue column at left of screen.
