On the one hand, the editors of Hot Rod and Rod & Custom might like to broaden their bases, because what they publish is so boring. On the other hand, the advertisers and most of the subscribers are devoted to what is easy and (relatively)inexpensive: 350 + 350 + fibreglass replicas of real automobiles.
Truth be told, dear hearts, they ain't none of it cheap, if it's done right. Those with excellent mechanical skills might get along being original and innovative without laying out much cash, but the rest of us have to lay by in store and take our time.
