Hi,
I looked in the archives and didn't find much.
Can anyone recommend a universal fit electric fuel pump to feed a mildly modified 292 w/ 450 Holley?
I have an old style Holley street pump in the car now and it didn't seem to run so it's either seized or motor is bad.
I was going to get a Purolator pump but it seems to be discontinued.

Carter fuel pumps are good. Rebuildable too.

I've been running the Holley red street electric pump for over 3 yrs on my 250 with a 500 Edelbrock carb. Volume and pressure are compatable so no regulator is needed. Amp draw is light so no relay is needed. I ran 14 gauge wire back to the pump from an oil press switch and soldered on a 2 wire weather pak plug on the Holly suplied pump wires to keep things clean since the pump is mounted on the chassis in front of the gas tank. Except for the noise that pump is great for the street. A multi speaker sound system of at least 160 watts takes care of the pump noise. Opne headers will do it too. \:D

In the next reply MikeG brings up a good point.
How does the Carter compare to the Holley pump for noise?
Hard to find one much louder than the Holley;
but I've not heard the full race pumps either.
Maybe they're louder yet.

The Holley street or red pump is considerably more quiet than the higher pressure blue pump. I have been told the Carter makes less noise than the Holleys, but have not heard the difference myself.

The carters whine less than the holley's - not dead quiet though.

I use an inexpensive Carter electric pump (5E20B430). Works great on my 261 with 2 Carter/Webber 2bbl carbs.

I know this response is a little after the fact, but you might still be able to use the input. I'm currently running a Holley red pump on a 1968 Mustang with a 302/600 Holley setup (shhh, it's a V-8) and the pump makes a quiet hum when it's running. I don't know about the Carter; I've never heard one of those running. However, a friend of mine used a couple of the Purolator pumps in series on a motorhome with a Chrysler 440 in it. The Purolator is a reciprocating pump rather than a centrifugal one like the Holley, and it makes a moderate clicking or thumping sound when it's running, but if you use a rubber isolator of some kind, the noise inside the car won't be intrusive, but you'll probably be able to tell when it's running. And by the way, I'm planning on running a Purolator pump in my 64 Nova with a 194 and 350 Holley. I bought mine at a local Schuck's Auto Parts, so they should be available at a Checker/Schuck's/Kragen, Auto Zone, NAPA, or other parts store. The Purolator is also FAR less expensive than either the Holley or Carter pumps, and is a real easy installation.
