Actually, there's a guy in MN with a 1950? Chevy car with a small Weiland/B&M style blower adapted to a 4bbl intake like I described. It has a stock bottom end and very little head work done. He had it on a dyno and got 325hp out of it with about 5psi of boost, if I remember correctly. He used a flat style belt, with the crank pulley bolted onto the front of the damper, and replaced the water pump pulley with some factory unit. Apart from the cost of the blower itself, it looked like a pretty cheap and simple setup to me. It doesn't require the space or have the tuning issues or special parts that you would need if you were to go with a turbo (on a 235/261 that is).
To use that 216 SCOTT manifold on a later 235/261, all you need to do is buy/make a set of stepped adapter rings. The difference in size is so small, that it shouldn't matter for street use, especially when you consider the air is being forced in.(in this case).
