I have been busy doing almost the same thing to the 261 engine in my 57 Chevy 3/4 tn. PU. I went with the Holley/Weber progressive 32/36 carb on the Langdon 2-1 brl. adapter and the original intake. I also used the linkage adapter kit from Langdons and oriented the carb with the bowl to the front of the engine as Holley reccomends. This will put the veturies 90 degrees from the intake. This setup works out pretty well with the stock foot feed and linkage to the carb. With a converted oil bath air cleaner the whole thing looks very period correct.
