I have used both before (heated and non-heated) found bouth of them to work but the heated manifold was defiantly better for a daily driver. One that I have tried had the heat box that bolted to the stock manifold, that been severial years ago and not sure of the brand of manifold.?
I was just not happy with the unheated manifold on a daily driver.
My advice would be to put in a little more work or hassle (as you call it) and rig up some kind of heat for the manifold, so maybe you won't be dissapointed like I was.
