I'm cleaning up my starter and was wondering if there were bits I should assess/replace while its on the bench.....Its a delco unit held to the chevy 6 with 2 bolts. There's a bracket hung from the dipstick but no hole in the starter housing so the bracket sort of acts only as a brace. Wire wheeling the aluminum parts sure makes them look bee-ute-ee-ful.

That bracket you are talking about is normaly bolted to the start on the end useing one of the end bolts that holds the started together. But is not on all motors. You can take the end cap of the starter and check the brushs. Just to make sure there not getting to thin. hope this helps.
