Hi Everyone,

I'd like to start by saying that this BB has made for some very interesting reading. It's good to find so much expertise in one place.

I've got a 1963 GMC truck with a 230 I6 (Canadian built truck) I've been looking in the local yards for an HEI unit to swap into it. I found one the other day with a separate coil. I've read that they also come with the coil in the cap. Is there any reason that I should keep looking for the coil in the cap HEI or would this one work fine?

The 230 will be street driven without any major mods in the near future.

Thanks,

Either one works fine, as there is no difference in how they operate. The only time you really might need a separate-coil unit is if you plan on adding A/C someday, since that type has a lower cap height than the coil-in-cap design and the A/C compressor might end up mounted above the cap.
