Walt & Robert are correct.

You won't need a "big time" ignition system for street use in mild climates (non commercial) usage etc.

Save your money. \:\)

Get a used head & have someone rework it. Then install it with headers & a 4bbl.

This way it wil be 'cost effective', you can take your time and still drive it in the process.

Good luck. \:\)

The 79 should have come with a GM HEI. As long as it is not going to be running alot of high rpm, stock or equal replacement parts should be fine.

If that is the MSD 4 pin module for the V8 HEI yes it works fine in the inline job. I run one in mine along with their hi output coil in the cap. You really don't need either of these on a stock or even slightly modifed engine but I know it will make you feel better to do it. While you are doing the changes be sure you run only a brass terminals contact distributer cap. The aluminum cheapy ones just don't cut it. Also while the thing is opened up check to be sure the centrifugal advance is free and moving by poking the weights back and forth with your fingers. The GM HEI is noted for them freezing up with rust and for the little plastic bushings to fall apart.

I use Taylor Spiro Pro wires exclusively on performance street engines I work on and they have been 100% trouble free over tens of thousands of miles. You'll have to buy a universal V8 set as they don't make a set of the 4 or 6 cyl engines. You end up with 2 spare wires that way. The way I see it, every 3 sets you buy you end up with a free 4th set. ;\)

Run the stock factory recommended AC spark plugs and gap them at .045" and you'll be happy.

have fun with the Camaro
