Has anyone put one of the mini starters on their inlines? I notice that on the solinoid there is one less wire hookup stud on the mini starter. Right now I have three wires to my stock starter (battery, two ignition). What do I need to do to hook up the new starter? Am I confusing anyone? Hopefully someone can assist me! Haven't put a mini starter on an inline. The third wire is the 12 volt bypass to the coil. If your running HEI or some other electric ignition you probably don't need it. Merry Christmas

I'm going to take a guess here that your vehicle orginally came with a kettering (points) ignition system.

Your connections on your orginal starter are:

1)starter solenoid
2) battery connection
3) ignition coil resistor bypass (on GM this was a resistance wire)

OK so to use your mini starter your need to convert to electronic ignition. Once you have done so then you can disconnect the resistance wire at the starter and at the coil. To run a HEI ignition you will need to run a 12 gage wire from the ignition switch (hot in run AND crank position) to the B+ terminal on the HEI.

If you cannot find a HEI system, then a good choice is a MSD6A box, they really help with cold starts (in most cases you can lean out the choke by 50% which helps with fast warmup). I have not used the pertronics system so I cannot comment if they need the resistance wire.
