I'm going to take a guess here that your vehicle orginally came with a kettering (points) ignition system.
Your connections on your orginal starter are:
1)starter solenoid
2) battery connection
3) ignition coil resistor bypass (on GM this was a resistance wire)
OK so to use your mini starter your need to convert to electronic ignition. Once you have done so then you can disconnect the resistance wire at the starter and at the coil. To run a HEI ignition you will need to run a 12 gage wire from the ignition switch (hot in run AND crank position) to the B+ terminal on the HEI.
If you cannot find a HEI system, then a good choice is a MSD6A box, they really help with cold starts (in most cases you can lean out the choke by 50% which helps with fast warmup). I have not used the pertronics system so I cannot comment if they need the resistance wire.
