I'm working on a:

1958 Chevy 235
12 volt coil with internal resistor
Pertronix kit in the distributor

I just installed the engine. I wired the engine to the battery and I am running a jumper from the battery to the coil (all wires are stripped out of the car, new wiring kit to be installed soon). I got a spark on the first try, but now I am not getting any spark at the plugs. Everything is new. I pulled the pertronix kit and re-installed the points, still no spark. An Ideas?

Could the pertronix kit make the coil go bad?

Is there a way to test the coil?

Is there a way to test the pertronix kit?

Should I only be using a coil and an external resistor?

thanks

Does the primary circuit have spark?

I have only checked for spark at the plug, no spark there.

Dear M;

1). Turn engine till points are open.

2). Connect a 'jump wire' from the + side of coil to the + side of battery.

3). If spark (jump wire) occurs, points are shorted. If none, go to step 4.

4). Pull the coil (HV) wire out of the distributor cap & place near ground.

5). Short the points with an old screwdriver. An (HV) spark should occur where the coil wire is near ground and @ the points (12V) also.

Good luck. \:\)
