Hello...I'm working on a 55 second series chevy pickup. When I started it the lower door hinge pin was broken, the front of the hinge pocket was rusted out, the kick pannel below the fresh air grill was gone as well as 1/2 of the passenger side floor board.
Well I rebuilt the hinge pocket and replaced the hinge pins as well as the floor and kick pannel.
I remounted the door and can't get it ajusted.
It is too far in at the top (touching metal to metal) and too far out at the bottom (3/4 inch gap to door jamb). I have the top hinge as far out as it can go in the door pillar and the lower one is all the way in.
The question is...Is am I trying ot ajust it incorrectly or has all the rust damage allowed the cab to tweek out of shape?
Anyone with experiance with thease cabs please help...I need to know if its worth starting on the drivers side...Thaks for your input.

Am having trouble remembering/visualizing exactly how they worked so another member could relate their real life experiances, but you might first check the curve at the elbow of the hinges against the other side with a cardboard template or against other known good hinges. It wouldn't be unusual to have sprung hinges. Also you might try loosening all the bolts at the pockets, top & bottom, and inside, and see if there is in & out adjusting movement that way. It would help to see one; There are ways to bend/recurve or use shims to get more adjustment, but I,d wait to hear from another inliner that owns one first.

Dear Rusty;

Befor you go any further get an estimate or three from local Body/Paint shops. It/this may be very simple.

No one can help you 'on line' without seeing exactly what the situation is.!!!

Please get professional advice before you go any further. It's generally free and can/will save you a 'bundle' in the long run.

Good luck, John M......
