After reading the new drag racing rules, I have one question.
I'm still planning on building a slant six to start running and I assume it will be listed as a 12 port( which it is) and I was going to run it in class CC/G as it will weigh around 2800 lbs. with the interior in it. After reading the rules, I see that it has to be "street legal" or I assume I will be bumped into the next class, which is CC/A.
Am I confused, dazed or correct in my assumptions?

Charlie,

When the rule book mentions a "12 Port Head" it refers to aftermarket heads for the GMC and Chevy Inlines. These originally came with 7-port heads. In your case, the slant six head is considered a "stock" head, even though it has 12 Ports.

Jack, my question is that the one class seems to state theat the car be equipped with all "street legal stuff" and must be registered for that year. I take that to mean that a dedicated drag car could not run in this class.
That being said, I guess I will plan on running in the next class.
I did not realize that the slant six head would be considered a stock head instead of a 12 port head.

Charlie, that's correct, the way the rules are written - the gas classes must be street legal and the car registered. THis has not changed from the old rules, which stated the same requirements. Whether it's realistic or not, depends on whether you RACERS want it that way. The new rules are still under review and this is the time to make changes if any are needed.

Hi Jack,
Looks like we have another "Slanter" from Florida. I was looking over the rules, and I can't figure out where my car could run and be competative. Totally street legal, 3250 lbs with driver 170 cid stock head, headers and nitrous.
Why not allow a choice of either blowers or nitrous in gas class, but not combined. My car would have to run as an altered.
