Sorry, but i can't find anything on XAG either. I doubt that its original to '63 though, because they didn't start using 3 digit codes until 1970. Try giving this code to your Chevy dealership instead of the casting number and see if you can get lucky this time.

Are the intake and exhaust manifolds cast as part of the head or are they separate castings?

Does is say "Mexico" anywhere on the block?

To the left of the casting number there should be another set of casting numbers, something like "CON2 F129", the F129 would mean June 12, 1969, for example.

I thought they might say that. Apparently the "X" isn't part of the coding, only the "AG", which would be what they are saying.

I've got a known- to- be -original '68 292 block, stamped numbers are FO627XAE. This engine was in the truck when I bought it in 1973.
I've wondered about the "X" myself.LMC Truck has some partial codes (and vin codes) broken down in their catalog. They don't list any X. I wonder if it is a dealer- exchanged engine under original owner's warranty? Just a wild guess.
My other block is stamped FO626UH. LMC's chart does correctly ID it as a '67.

Call Kevin Jackson at GM 512-356-1078. He can give you the answer if there is one. He runs the "Information Station."
Good luck Buffalo37
