Has anyone else seen the article in the current issue of Mustang & Fords magazine about the guy building a hi-po 250 Ford inline six? The guy builds an aluminum head for the small Ford sixes, and since I'm a work at the moment, I don't have his name at hand right now. However, the name of his company is Classic Inlines, and even though I'm primarily a Chevy six fan, this guy and his work impress me quite a bit. Does anyone know if he's an Inliner? And if he isn't, why haven't we invited him to join?

http://www.classicinlines.com/home.asp Some pics http://www.classicinlines.com/alum_img.asp The Ford 300 head I believe is going to be a better head ,as far as flow. W/the 200 CI/smaller Ford sixes, cyl head, they limited them selves to being able to use stock type headers ,which is a bad design. Valves are small, so the flow numbers are not great. MBHD

MBHD, I work for Mike Winterboer @ Classic Inlines and I would like to state that the reason we stayed with the stock style exhaust port Based on the Austrailian 2v head wich is far better in design than the US head. Also the headers from down there are better than what is mostlty available up here and we didn't want our customers to have to buy another set of headers to accomodate the new head. Our main goal was to create a street performance head that customers could afford, head and intake combos are under $1800.00 Note that the flow #'s are right out of the box with no porting and polishing etc.The head flows 200cfm @ .500 lift int. and 160cfm @500 exh. There is close to a 80% VE across the the lift range from .200 - .600 aswell. The flow #'s were done with 1.85 int and 1.50 exh valves to keep port velocity up.

82F-100,
That is what I was saying with going the exhaust ports the way they are located it limits the airflow.
I do know why you left them in the that same port design,,,so people do not need to buy or make expensive headers, which is why it does not flow that well.
So those flow numbers are for non ported/polished head,so what does a ported & polished head flow ???
So, you are also saying you can install 2.02 or 2.08 intake & 1.60 or 1.625 exhaust?
I thought the bore size (on the 200 ci engine) is the limiting factor on the valves that are installed on that cylinder head,,,, not because to keep up the port velocity????
I do not think you can install larger valve than a 1.85 in, & 1.50 ex,they will not fit, & even if you can install larger valves on such a small bore size, it would not flow much more regardless.
Don't get me wrong here, I am not bashing that cylinder head, I am sure it is much better than a stock one.
It would be great if Classic inlines would make a cylinder head for our Chevy inlines.
I would just suggest not to worry too much about guys not wanting to spend extra money for special intake or exhaust manifolds/headers.
The Chevy 194-292 cylinder head is a bad design siamese port,& I would not want it to be the same type of layout & just improve a little & be aluminum.
It need s a complete redesign. two cents thrown :-) MBHD

MBHD, the design of the head limits the valves to 1.85 and 1.55 respectively. As for flow #'s of a worked head we don't have any yet that I know of .The heads that are being tested by some of our customers are straight out of the box because they were in a hurry to get them on LOL.Also the new intakes are desined to work with the new head as of right now those being run are using the stock Aus 2V intake with a holley adapter or a modified one to accept a small holley4V. I can also say we are planning a new head for the Chevy six with the same goals as the Ford head.I would suggest sending any imput to Mike so he knows what you folks are looking for in a head. Rich

Yes, I'm an inliner. I own Classic Inlines and I'm the site admin for the FordSix forum. I just don't get the opportunity to visit as often as I'd like as I'm very busy and work an average of 100 hrs per week normally. Heck, I rarely keep up with the topics on my own forum most of the time. LOL
Our new aluminum head was just released this week. The intakes are still a couple weeks off, but they were setting up the cores as of today and will be casting them by weeks end.
The big six pattern was delivered last week, but went back to the pattern maker for revisions. We had hoped to release it around the end of the year, however it will more than likely be mid spring.
When we did our market reseach we determind that a large portion of our perspective customers use their cars on a daily basis, had limited budgets, and had already made performance mods which included headers and v/c. Hence we decided to design a street/strip cylinder head which would utalize the existing headers, valve covers, and rocker assemblies. Thus keeping it within the range of even the most modest budget. While the design limited the flow, its still light years ahead of the old cast iron log head.
We are doing the same with the Ford big six head, and the Chevy heads when the time comes. While maximum performance is great, there are other factors to consider, including mileage and money. There are still many who enjoy driving their cars/trucks daily, on weekends, or on those hot summer evening cruises.
Eventually, after the street/strip heads are done, we plan to design and produce performance SOHC/DOHC, four valve cylinder heads. As such, they will require new exhaust headers, valve covers, camshafts, rocker assemblies, and gear or belt drives. Obviously they will be for the more serious builder, and will carry a higher price tag.
Until then, our priorities will serve those who drive often and want more performance. What better place to start, than with the Ford small six with the asthmatic log intake, which I happen to own three of. LOL

AzCoupe., that's great you have the Ford six head available now. Congrats on your accomplishment!
For making a Chevy 194-292 head you could use the same type of port layout, but make them individual intake ports. Widen the intake ports, raise the roof, increase the short turn radius.
The exhaust, raise the port some what better short turn radius.
That way we could just devide the intake manifolds, Clifford,Offy ,etc,, & run standard type headers also.
Also reshape the combustion chambers.
Just some thoughts off the top of my head. :-)
Nice to have you chime in here.
