the ''BUB'' meet is on @ bonneville http://www.speedtrialsbybub.com/2007_event/index-2007.html As I love motorcycles more than my truck & that's saying alot, I especially love my Vincent & Indian motorbikes. There are several running at b-ville being used for what the Phil's had wanted them used. Here is an accounting of what's going on... see ya there Max (mad max kansas) sent me almost 900 photos, going back to when he started his streamliner effort in 1988. We've been working on a new layout for the website, and so far, I have the photo albums for 1988 - 2003 finished, and Max's build narratives are done through 2002. Eventually, most of the existing content will be moved over and incorporated into the new layout, plus some more new stuff. For now, the existing website is still there, and on the main page, near the top, I added a link to the new website. To go directly to the new website, see http:// www.vincentstreamliner.com/BlackLightning/index.html

update Max's Machine (kansas) Got the transmission fixed. One gear only, but it's making so much power I don't think there'll be any problems.
Will be leaving for the salt at 6:30 a.m. It'll take 1 1/2 to 2 hours to put it all back together again. We should be able to make a run tomorrow and see how it goes.
It's not as good as I'd like, but we're not down and out yet. The motors are working real good. ___________________________________
Hartmut's (driver- germany) run was 181.235 mph. by the timing slip.
The motors, by leaning it out and taking some of the weight off the clutch, improved the acceleration a lot. The bike is not handling like it used to. I'm raising the axle on the rear wheel in relation to the chassis, which will improve the C.G. The front coil over gas shock will be stiffened on the front. The wheel alignment checked thorougly. It appears it's going to take another 20 lbs of weight on the right hand side.
The motors are running strong--real strong. Hartmut reported that even with the poor salt conditions, and the one gear only, the bike should go 250 to 300 mph.
I had ordered spare parachutes sent to the hotel, which haven't arrived as of yet. Mike Ackitiff generously loaned me a high and a low chute, in case the others don't arrive. Great guy.
He'll be leaving the salt tomorrow, done for the year, due to extensive damage to his motorcycle.

update 9/03 There is a photo of the Lightning, Steve Hammell's (MINN.) Vin plus many other machines and a running commentary from the racers here: http://www.landracing.com/forum/index.php/topic,2880.15.html >>>>>>>> SCROLL DOWN THE PAGE -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Max Lambky (kansas mad max) Sent: Tuesday, September 4, 2007 5:00 PM Subject: vincentstreamliner Max says it's raining, and they're going to call it a day. All the crew members are meeting for hamburgers tonight. But back at it early in the morning. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Talked to Max a couple of hours ago and he said Hartmut would be making a run in about an hour. Just called him again He said he and Hartmut (german - driver) are just sitting in the truck talking. They had gone to the line just for a handling run, when an official came all the way (five miles) from the prestage area to tell them that they hadn't notified the officials that they were about to make a run. That's when you're going after a record run. The officials have to be told in advance. They were next in line when this happened, and lost their window because of the hassle, which placed several others in front of them. They finally got it straightened out, when a thunderstorm came up. It looks like it's passing over. Now they're next in line. Again, for a handling run. He says he needs a gear box to go for the 350 mph record.

update 9/04 Unable to resist I called Steves cell phone and **** if it didnt work ! His wife filled me in while he was messing with his starting rollers . Will call me later - prepping to run now . As I listened I heard Terry Prince fire up his machine in the background - Such Fun ! Bout made me jump out of my chair ! The excitement flowed out of the phone ! Steve has made only one run , this yesterday about 3 PM . The salt is VERY rough and rutted , wet and slick , heavy wheel slippage . Turned a 146.917 MPH , motor running VERY strong - sure to be far faster if he had traction . The crowd of would be runners and people has doubled over last year , really grown . More later .
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Steve called me back from that Lunar like landscape this > time . Terry Prince's (AUSTRIALIA) racing combo experianced damages to its > fairing struts etc . being towed onto the course , its a rigid > rear frame setup and the rutted paths beating did it no good . > However its sounding strong and Prince hopes to run it later > . Steve is readying his machine for Marty Dickerson to take it > down the course ! Yes , the old Warrier is back tilting > with Fate as he has done so many times before in his thrill packed > and Record setting past . Hes sure to twist its tail to the max > possible , and caution be ****ed . Steve described his > only run yesterday for me , --- with mucho rear wheel slippage > giving a tach indication of 165 MPH easily - when in fact > tripping the clocks at 147 . Says he would be satisfied with a good > run 160 . More later!
update 9/05 late At point zero.
There are about 40 motorcycles in front of the Vincent streamliner, and 6 other streamliners. Denis Manning is in line next to them. It's too windy for the streamliners so it's a waiting game. Cloudy. "...but that's Bonneville."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hartmut made the run. Took it to 188 mph. but couldn't open it up, as the liner is still experiencing handling problems. We're back in the pit working on the the handling. Hopefully will get another run in today. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Wed, 05 Sep 2007 22:43:52 GMT Hartmut said he got off course and cut through the red ribbon like a knife through butter, but he brought her back.
We're in line again. Handling is trial and error testing, not a mechanical problem.

Wind came up again. Only 10 minutes till meet closes for the day.
Denis says the streamliners will be first in line at 7:00 am.

update 9/06 late Max Re' (son) just told me. Time for the first pass was 221.+mph. They're going back to the pit to change oil and later make the return run.
Don Angel piloting the Vincent streamliner.
The return run wasn't as fast, but it was fast enough to get an AMA record at an average speed of 217 mph.
Max said from the truck as he followed Don down the track. He had the windows open, and I heard the announcer say, "A beautiful run by that 1952 Vincent." (Actually, the motors came from Stevenage in 1948 and in 1952.)
