been trying to figure out why no spark when i discovered the rotor doesnt turn, the oil pump drive is intalled and the distrib sit all the way down to the block, also was checking for fuel and discovered not pumping either, 83 300 I6 in a Bronco. never worked with these motors before and am thinking timing chain????

Well it appears the cam is not turning for some reason.You'll probably have to pull off the timing gear cover to check it out.

You stripped the teeth off the cam gear. Replace it with metal gears (not phenolic). Cloyes makes a set with multiple keyways so you can advance / retard your cam. If re-using your stock cam most applications work good @ 4 deg advanced.

Don't forget to pull the oil pan and clean it - maybe change the oil pump while you are down there. Good luck.

Thanks guys, checked the dist. gear was told they shear there pin some times and its okay so Iam heading to the timing gears, have ordered a set from napa not sure what kind of teeth they have the price was $78 bucks will have to wait and see, thanks for mentioning the oil pan would not have thought of that.

this may be a dumb second ??? but are these motors non interferance ie; pistons to valves not sure if this prior owner was drive when the gears went, have seen many bent valves on import 4 cyl was wondering???

Got my gears today, they are steel not platicish, made by clevite. will be putting in this weekend. thanks for your help

Just do a compression test to see.

It's been my experience that even when driven on the freeway, this type of failure kills the engine W/O major things 'going south'.

This is not to say it can't, but do the test.

Got the gears in last night, also had to replace water pump due to exsesive movement in pully assembly, will lift engine tonight to get pan out and clean out, so have not been able to do the compression test, also found my snap-on tester doesnt have the correct size for the larger plugs, Iwonder if it was supposed to be in the kit. Thanks again for all the help!!!!
