Reposted from the "driveline" board.
I just bought a 1956 Dodge OD transmission to swap for the 3 speed in my Wayfarer Coupe.
The input shaft is different, and I got a replacement input shaft as well, so I don't have to take both transmissions apart at the same time to make the swap. Only problem is that the input shaft that I got won't work in the OD transmission. Apparently some of the internals on the '56 transmission are different than the 49-54 models, so I'm going to have to take parts out of my existing transmission to do the swap.
Is this going to work? I'd hate to take both transmissions apart only to find that the bits won't interchange.
Anyone have direct working knowledge of parts interchangability between different versions of Dodge 3 speeds from 1949 through 1956?
Oh, the car is fluid drive, if that makes any difference. Also, I got a brake drum that is supposed to allow me to use the driveshaft in the car.

Thanks.
