Nice to hear your motor's still doing its job. I'm in the process of acquiring a spare motor to do the lower end mods that you described.
I'm still running the ball and balls, my only problem now is a momentary hesitation when I floor it suddenly. I have the accellerator pump set on the longest stroke, lower settings just made it worse. Fuel milage is about 15 mpg or so with the stock 3.92 gearing. I've got a 1956 overdrive transmission that I'm going to mix and match with my 1949 transmission, to improve fuel economy and bring up the cruising speed a touch.
