Hey, I'm hoping maybe someone can help me out with a small problem I'm having. I'm putting the 261 back in my 54 Chev. sedan. When I put the flywheel on, I noticed multiple timing marks on the flywheel. There's a line, a ball bearing, then another line, then a triangle. It's bean so long since I had to dead time it that I've forgotten which mark to use.
Also, can anyone make a suggestion as far as an initial timing setting? I'm running an .080 261 with a Howard's 3/4 race cam (solid), Offy intake w/ dual Rochester 1bbls, Clifford headers, and a manual trans. The ignition is a factory Delco w/ the Pertronics conversion. Any help would be very appreciated.

The ball is the right mark. I am running that cam in mine with about 12 degrees initial @ 750 rpms.

After the intake valve closes, when the piston comes back up to the top, that would be TDC. Use the #1 cylinder.

Thanks for the help. Any idea what the triangle is all about?

I'm pretty sure the ball is 5 degrees BTDC on #1 cylinder and the triangle is TDC on #1 and #6. I'm not sure what the lines mean, my flywheel doesn't have them.
