I'm about to build up my 217 Plymouth flathead into a bored/stroked 230. I want to find out if anyone knows how to modify the oiling to full flow? Or can it be done at all? I've been told both yes and no by folks who seemed pretty certain both ways. It would make me feel a whole lot better to spend all these bucks and have good oil filtering going on in the engine. Thanks, Charlie.

Not full flow, but it will help alot. Go to your local Farm supply store and get some cow magnets. They should be about $5. Just put one in the bottom of the oil pan, and maybe one in the filter housing if there's room(if not it can be hose clamped to the outside of the filter housing, but it'll show). The magnets will catch any stray metallic particles floating around in the oil, much like a magnetic drain plug. You won't be able to clean the one in the pan without pulling it apart, but you can clean the one in the filter housing.

For those not familiar with cow magnets, they're 2"-3" long, some are smooth cylinders, some are rectangular(these work better because they don't roll around). You feed one to a cow, and it ends up sitting in the cow's first stomach. It catches any metallic debris(nails, fence wire, etc) that the cow may eat and keeps it from going threw the whole digestive track. Really.

I saw a short write up where they took the boss on the side of the engine that the oil pump bolts to and drilled two passages into the output side of the boss and installed a plug in the oil galley between the two drilled holes. The holes were taped and pipe fittings were installed for the hoses to the oil filter and back to the fitting on the boss nearest the block. The filter would have to have a by pass installed in it to bypass the filter when it was realy cold.
