Inliners International Forums General Discussion Engines 194" head on 250, why not?

My engine uppgrade project is going on.
Engine is 250" GM. I have allready .442 marine cam from Stovebolt and Offenhauser 4bbl intake.
I should make decision which head I use, milled 250" or 194". Both have same size valves. Milled 250" (0.006") have 9.25 compression and 194" 9.39 compression. Is there some reason I should not to use 194". I know that 194" air flow is more restricted by the smaller chamber size, but this will not be racing engine. Any ideas or recommendations?

If you look at it maybe from another point of veiw. 1) better mpg 2)the 250 would give you better over all performance. But you haven't said what Valves.? If your talking stock valves in both. The 194 maybe the better choice just because of added compression. But thats a 50/50 because of very little difference in compression.
I have ran both heads with 1.8 valves and didn't really see any difference. the 194 had MUCH more compression. But the 250 had better air flow around the valve But Less compression.So i still have to say a 50/50 call. hope this 2cents helps.

I´ll use stock valves. I have had very same kind of thoughts myself... Maybe 194" is better choice cause I have more time to work with it (250" is in my car and it´s my daily driver). I haven´t milled 250" yet so there will be one thing that I doesn´t need to do anyway.
