I am a engine machanic in a wrecking yard in Portland Oregon=WET&COLD.
I have over 1,000 engines stored in our warehouse. Some have been stored since the 1970s.If the engine will run,i slowing pour about a cup of automatic transmisson fluid down the carb.while it is running. It does a good job of coating the cylinder walls and valves. If the engine does not run i spray a product called POWERFOAM made by AMSOIL in the cylinders thru the spark plug hole.It foams up and expands and coats everything. We also drain the oil and coolant from the engine.I knock out the freeze plugs and flush the water jackets with clean water. If you leave the coolant in the motor,it can go bad after a time and cause freeze breaks in the water jackets.I have been doing this for over 23 years and have had few problems.
