Hey Gang, Own a Chev.52 COE w/ the original 235 babbitt bearing engine.A frame up resto is tentatvely planned to start in Sept....so opinions welcome!! Would love to have a full pressure 261 installed to replace the 235 for the obvious reasons.I've heard this is pretty much a modification free swap.Is what I've learned correct?? This truck is equipped w/ the 2 speed rearend. Since I'm looking to add a little bit of highway speed (10-12 mph)are there later rearends from a C-60 that could be considered. I don't know what ratios are found on these newer models. Finally, would a later rearend fit my truck??

I would check with Tom's Truck Parts in Miami, Ok. The number is: (918) 542-3871.
However with a good 261" your not going to need 'tall' gears etc.
Good luck, John M......

not sure about the rear ends but if you look around you can find 24 inch wheels that will fit, with hi profile tires that will give you a lot more top speed at lower rpm....would love to see some pics of your project,I am dealing on a 47 dodge cabover myself, they are neat old trucks...jim

Ollie,
The C60 rearend from a early 60's truck has a significantly different bolt pattern for the hubs/rims than a '52. I have a 62 C60 that I pulled a 261 w/5spd and PTO from for motivating older Chevy iron. I considered using the rearend in a 48 COE, but would be wierd having different front / rear wheels. I haven't pulled the front hubs off to see if their is any possibility of a swap to get everything to match up.
