This question may have been asked before, but I couldn't find it. I'm thinking about up grading the brakes on my son's 1970 C-10. As of now it has drums on all four corners. I'm thinking of going to front power disc's/drums on the rear. I MAY possibly go to rear disc's.
I have access to the complete front end off of a late 70's Impala/Caprice. Will the booster, master cylinder, proportioning valve work? Will the spindles and brake assembly fit my control arms? Is this a direct swap? I do realize that the Impala/Caprice stuff is 5 lug. What type of "doner" do I need for factory type rear disc's?
Thanks for the help,

Use the front end or the spindles, brakes, etc from a 1971 or 1972 C-10. Joe

Ditto to that. You can also swap the whole front end from a truck all the way up to '81. I think you only have to drill 2 holes. Check out www.67-72chevytrucks.com The BEST resource for almost all Chevy trucks. I believe there's a write-up in the FAQ about that. There are also numerous postings on the topic. I'm jjk3 over there. Good luck. John

Hey Steve, I was actually pondering the same upgrade for my '68 C-30. I will be keeping the rear drums, but I mainly want to swap the front for discs. Bigchev's idea of swapping the whole front end sounds good since I need to rebuild mine. I know I can't use a 1/2 ton front on a 1 ton (8 lugs), but what about a 3/4 ton setup? I'd like to know more myself about this since brakes are REALLY important.

John, I spoke to Tom Langdon at Langdon's Stovebolt Engines earlier this week about his intake heater.
In the conversation, we got on brakes. I told him that I was leaning towards a power disc set up. He told me that he has regular (non-power) disc's on his truck and that they work great! I may be changing my mind about the power disc deal. When I get back in town, I'm hitting the salvage yard. Mr. Langdon is a wealth of information.

Thanks Steve. This will probably be my solution too. I've read alot about the Langdon's Stovebolt Engines on this site. Well keep me posted on your success with this, it will probably be similar to mine other than having a few less lugs.

Poking around the Chevy Duty website, I actually found alot of great front disc brake conversion stuff for 5, 6, and 8 lug 67 - 70 chevy trucks. some give you 2 1/2 drop spindles if want some drop too. Also they have power brake boosters with the new master cylinder for drum/drum, disc drum, and disc/disc setups. This is all brand new and for the discs and power will run around $1500 at least, but it is all new and beats the salvage yard at times....it is fun to dream.

Spindles from a donor truck is all you really need. The rest you can get at Auto Zone or Napa.

I'm looking into doing the same on my 62, going with 71 spindles and discs. I assume getting the master and prop. valve from the same would be advised?
