I asked this question over on the Stovebolt page, with very little response. Let me run it by you guys. I`m going to a open driveline on my `54 half ton. I`m using the stock `54 housing, but with spring perches, and U bolts, and a `55 type third member. In doing this, I want to move the rearend 3 1/2" rearward to "center" the tire in the wheel opening. When all is said and done, I will need a pair of E brake cables 3 1/2" longer! Does anyone know of a source for these? What did you guys use on your truck? Thanks, JD

I am going thru the opposite right now. My new frame had 55 1st series springs which moved my torque tube rearend back too far. The 55 1st series springs have the center bolts dead center in the springs where the 54 had a shorter front section. I am going to trade springs to go back to normal. Maybe you just need to find a set of 55 1st series springs.

Thanks guys, I`m not having a problem centering the wheels (I have the leaf spring center bolt hole in the spring perch drilled 3 1/2" off center to posistion the housing where I need it.) My problem is "In moving the housing rearward 3 1/2" to center the wheel, it leaves the E brake cables 3 1/2" short"! Beyond out of adjustment! The `54 cables bolt to the backing plates. I was thinking maybe someone may have run into this situation, and had a solution. I wonder if a long bed `54 has the same setup? JD

Dear JD;

I think Walt has it.

The rear cables are pulled by a single rod as I recall.

You might give Patrick's a call to be sure.

Good luck, John M., #3370.....

the things in the end that the pins go thru, i beleive that's called a "clevis". those can be obtained in many different lengths & quite cheaply. you'd be able to use the cables you have. try napa or an industrial fastener supply.
