What is your opinions on using a GM-8 (6.5TD) turbo on a 250 or 292?
I have one (GM-8) on my 6.5 turbo diesel. It starts building boost at 1500. A 6.5 is only good to rev to 4K or so, I think this would translate to 4,000 for the 292 and 6300 rpm for the 250. If I am on the right track, this would start building boost in the 2200-2300 on a 250, or around 2ooo on a 292. My 6.5 builds 15 lbs fairly easily.
These turbos are fairly cheap here.
Good or bad idea?
I would like to turbo the 250 (or could put in a 292) in my 67 chevy short bed. Kicking around ideas, money is always short.
If this would work, what horsepower could I expect from a 250 or 292? What flange does the GM-8 have, is it like a T-3 or T-4?
I am looking to build this engine for a semi-daily driver, with an occasional trip to the track (street tires only no slicks). I was thinking of changing the 3 on the tree to a 700R4.
I have a 3.08 in it now.
Thanks for the input
