It seems like it is really hard to get the horizontal gasket that is below the carb area to seal between the stock intake and exhaust manifolds where they meet. I am not able to upgrade either one at this time, and I can feel the air poking out as it is idling. I tightened the one outer bolt a little then I tightened one of the two inner bolts and of course it snapped off. I just got the truck running good, is at this point in the manifold possibly going to burn a valve? I mean, the exhaust is going into the manifold, then back up toward the carb to heat it and then leaking out there, I am thinking that is far enough away to where it might just be annoying but not damaging. I am definitely going to get it fixed asap, but it might be a week should park it until then or will it be fine until then?

thanks guys

Thomas,, I also snapped a bolt on my early engine in my chevy II, on second try, I mounted the manifolds together first, not tight but pretty snug, then mounted the manifolds, i had to pry (spread) apart a little at the ends over the guide pins,, after is was on, then I tightened the heat transfer for good, then torgued the manifold on,, worked great no leaks,,if you're like me and have a million gaskets laying around make sure you are using the metal(thick)type exhuast gasket, not the paper ones that might come with aftermarket manifolds,

Mine were bolted together off the engine, then the surfaces milled flat, then installed. I was hoping to eliminate leaks at the head which worked good. I think your method is sound too though, I didn't think of that. I do have the good metal gasket in there too. I can't wait to put an offenhauser intake and headers on it, but I have to wait right now \:\)
