Mine were bolted together off the engine, then the surfaces milled flat, then installed. I was hoping to eliminate leaks at the head which worked good. I think your method is sound too though, I didn't think of that. I do have the good metal gasket in there too. I can't wait to put an offenhauser intake and headers on it, but I have to wait right now
