I just picked up a 261 block to rebuild. Then found out it was .080 over already, is this thing going to be a wasted effort? Or can it be used if the cylinders are good with just a fresh honing?

What are the cylinder's like? If I had one and it only needed a 'hone' job, I would run it at that, but that's me. IIRC the racers back in the day used to bore these an 1/8th (yes, 0.125")
That's a bunch, and I wouldn't reccomend it as a target, but if you can find pistons, etc for it I would run it, try Egge machine ir you haven't found a set (oh, have you checked out the Webrodder 'stovebolt stroker' series?).
My, what a steep learning curve. Erik II#5155

Custom made by Ross, Arias, Jahns, etc...
Or you could have the bores sleeved back down to whatever size you wanted to run.

If you know the compression distance, pin size, etc you may find another OEM piston (Ford,Chryslet, etc) that will fit without a bunch of work.

It looks like we're going to resleeve this one, and start over. I think it will be better in the long run. But boy I sure do want to get her running!

I think Ron makes a good point, by the time you pay to install six sleeves(labor + sleeves), you will be very close to paying for a set of pistons from Ross, Venolia, etc. I have seen sleeves split the block between two cylinders before when installed with as little as .001-.0015 interference. I have, however done it before with no problems with multiple sleeves, but that one incident has always made me think about just going larger with custom pistons vs. sleeving all cylinders....Just a thought!
