i know everyone is getting tired of dumb questions.i'm trying to put this chevy 250 engine back together.i had it rebuilt.so now all i have to do is little things.i finally got the correct bolts for the oil pump.now im trying to put on (i dont know what it called)the tube that has the screen at one end and the other connects to the pump.that piece is off of a 292.will this still fit the 250.also the old tube has the bracket stuck on it.is that supposed to come off and be put on the 292?i've never put an engine together before so this is a big challenge for me.thanks for your help.

First off, don't worry about asking stupid questions. Everybody learns. And I'm still learning too. So keep asking.
I do believe the 292 and 250 oil pickups were the same. So much is similar between the engines it's tough for me to believe something like that would be different, considering oil pans swap around and all. And I've never read of a difference in all my research.

If the oil pans are the same, either pick-up should work. If one has brackets to mount it to a main, I would use it as it would have less chance of coming loose from the pump. Test fit the pan. I believe the magic clearance is 3/8" from the pick-up to the bottom of the pan. Also, spin the motor over while on the stand and make sure nothing hits.
