Is it just cracked at the bottom of the water jacket? In 1975 I got a "real deal" on a boat with a 160 Mercruiser IO. Took it to the lake fired it up and began to take on water. opened the engine cover to see water running out the full length of the block at the base of the water jacket where someone had let it freeze and break. Since I was so wealthy at the time I decided to try and fix it myself. So washed the side of the engine then etched it with acid and rinsed it real well. After it dried I mixed up some Bondo (body putty) wiped it in the crack and smoothed it down to hide the bulged out area. When that dried I painted it black, took it to the lake used it all summer thinking I would have the money to fix it during the winter, never happened. To make a long story short I owned it boat another ten years then sold it to the friend that helped me patch it in the first place. He sold it in 1998 and I had not seen it till a couple of years ago, when I seen it I thought it was my old boat so I ask to look at the engine the guy said sure and there it was still had the Bondo lump and still not leaking thirty plus years later. The Guy knew it had been repaired but wondered how I knew and we had a good laugh because he had just bought it and was wondering if the patch would hold.
