good idea or bad. i wanted to bore out my 200 to maybe a 300 if its not to much. A shop mechanic told me that this would make it gain alot of hp for little money.

Dustin, Yes, you can bore out the cylinders but not that much. Typical overbore is 0.030 inch on the diameter or 0.015 inch per side. This will make your 200 about a 203. Some engines can be bored more like 0.060 or 0.080, I'm not familiar with the 200 so I can't say. It's my understanding that unless you have unusually thick cylinder walls it's unwise to bore any more than minimum because bore distortion and ring seal become compromised along with durability.

Can you bolt in a 300 six? Way better plan if it fits.

A 300 would be a better engine overall,if you want to keep it normally aspirated.

The 300 has a better cylinder head, you can change intake manifolds + it's 300 CI.

On the other hand, you can turbocharge the 200 & it would be a fast machine.

It would take some fabricating skills, some knoweledge, help from others.

You can source junkyard turbos, or used turbos from Buick GN's turbo Regals, & others.

There is more info on this subject on the inline 6 Ford forum, where one guy did this (turbocharge a 200)on a high mileage engine, carburated one BBL,, IIRC,,it did one one too quick taking off from a stand still,,but once it got going it ran pretty good, like 100 MPH???? maybe a bit more MPH?? In the 1/4 mile.

I will try & find a link later,I have to go to work now.
Not the correct link,but,,,,

Correct me if I'm wrong... The 200 Ford is a car engine and is small.
A 300 cubic inch Ford Motor is for Full Size Trucks and is big.
I ain't saying it can't be done, but under normal circumstances a 300 won't fit in a Ford Fairlane.
Besides setting back the firewall and welding new motor mounts, you will need to beef up the front suspension to handle the weight of the Big Block Six (Ford 300)
