I'm considering a new "rebuilt" engine to replace my tired 230.

I'd like some impressions of running the LPG pistons for increased compression ratio in the 292. What head combo works (or works best) with the LPG piston? What doesn't work at all? (CR is too high.)

Several companies are offering the LPG engine rebuild. I'm not really looking for a strip or even a hot street build, just something reliable, but with the best bang for the buck.

Thanks,

Gene

I'm also interested in the 292 LPG pistons. How much lighter than stock are they and what's a safe redline with a relatively mild cam. I know the cam will dictate rpm to a point, but what's pushing it with stock 292 bottom end with LPG pistons?

Thanks,

Dave

I think they will weigh in about the same...we're talking hyper cast pistons; both are "stock". The only difference is the LP pistons' dish relief is only half as deep as the normal gasoline one. I can send pics, as I have both (I have an extra set of +.060 stock pistons)
The LP pistons aren't going to change your rotating mass, just up your compression a little.
If your looking at increasing the RPM capacity of the bottom end in a 292, you better review Santucci's book thoroughly. Your looking at lighter flat top forged pistons (starting at $100 ea?), upgraded rods, lightening the crank, etc.
