Is the trans cooler mounted in front of the radiator?

Reason I ask is,I owned a chevy van with a chevy 250.Put a automatic trans.in it,I mounted a trans. cooler in front of the radiator.The engine always ran hotter than I liked with trans. cooler in front of the radiator.
Removed the trans. cooler,temperture went back to normal running temperture.
