A dial in light is the best.
For cruise, set the light to 42 degrees. leave the vacum hooked up. Watching the timing mark, rev the engine to a cruise rpm, 2500 rpm. Timing should pop into view with the light, adjust the light timing up/down to find the timing.
For WOT, unhook the vacum line and rev to 3500-4000 rpm and find the timing mark with light. This will show the static+mechanical.
