Does anyone know what years GMC/Chevy used a green engine paint? I just got a 292 that painted this green color and it sure looks like its the orginal paint.

51 GMC 4.2 turbo
Can't solved today's problems using the same technology/thinking that created them

1963 to 1966 years were a kinda a green color.
1967 to 1972 RED
1973 to 1985 Blue
1986 to 1989 Black

They made the engine for so long that GM had to keep changing the color so people would not get bored of them.

I have a '63 model year 292 block, it's the original alpine green. Detroit Diesel Green is a close, commercially available match.
Mr. K: I believe '67 -'72s were painted Chevy Engine Orange. Same as SBCs. I know my'68 was.

Thanks for the info. It appears I'm now the owner of a pre-'66 292. The block casting # is 3851659.
