ok..... this site has been really great in helping me with 292 engine into a 53 chevy truck problems, so here's another:

I have to find an alternator and power steering pump with appropriate brackets to mount on this engine. Already have the water pump and 3 groove damper, but have no brackets..... are these the same as 250 brackets.... some pictures would be REALLY great

thanks

I am willing to fabricate 10 ps brackets if someone would send me or sell me some originals. I would only charge for material. If I could sell all ten, then I make another run. Anyone interested?
It seems to me that the 292 had a long production run, I haven't tried to locate the brackets at my local chevy dealer, has anyone else gone this route? What was the last year that the 292 was offered?

Chevy used 292 until mid 80's but brackets may have been different for later ones if serpentine belted.......... not sure. Anyhow, there should be brackets out there in boneyards (??)

I spent a lot of time trying to locate "new" 292 P/S brackets and found that GM discontinued them years ago .
A good source to find them used is a K-series GM truck with a 292 from 1973 to the mid eighty's . The 4x4's came standard with P/S and the 292 was an option in 3/4 & 1 Ton trucks.
I have seen GM parts books list the 292 as recent as 1989 but they were in the "P" series Panal Van Chassis' .
I have had to buy a complete junked truck just for the brackets and accessories for the 292 .
There are a few different brackets available for the 3 groove harmonic set up - one style positions the P/S pump at the top driver side just to the side of the exhaust manifold and another set up positions the pump way off to the drivers side because of the smog pump in the original P/S pump locarion.
If I had a digital camera I would take pictures for Ya"ll - sorry , I am not that up to date.....
I have found that some 250 P/S brackets will work on a 292 if the correct altenator brackets are used . Usually the 292 alt. bracket will raise the alt. upwards so that the other brackets line up like other 250 set ups .
