My exhaust manifold is leaking. It has a brand new gasget. All the bolts are tight. Any hints or tips? Thanks, Todd

Take it to a machine shop and have them surface it.

X2 for Ron G.

I have three stock manifolds sitting around all three don't pass the straight edge test and two of them have erosion that could be repaired by a reputable machine shop. Should cost less than $40.

If the manifold is on a 194-292 series motor you need to make sure both ends of manifold are attached with bolts or studs. Stock they come with alignment "pins" that make sealing more of a chore. If you do have the pins, you can removed them with a stud puller or even vice-grips as they are threaded into the head.

Thanks for the feedback. When I pull it I will do a quick check with a straight to make sure it is straight. I will also see about pulling the aligning pins. The leak is acually on one of the inner runners.

Also. Is there any one type or make of gasget that is better than another? Mine is a stock Felpro. I did fine one thru Mr. Gasget that does seem a little thicker. Todd

I pulled the exhaust and intake tonight. Both inner runners are about .020 below the outer ones. I guess a trip to the machine shop is in order.
Should I take the intake also and have them surface them both together? Thanks, Todd

Yes,
Have the machine shop cut 'approxiamatley' the same amount from the intake that they cut from from the exhaust so as to keep the heat plate alignment proper.

How did the head surfaces look? Eroded?
