I'm putting a t-5 to my 292 and The closest I can get is to run the firebird clutch disc in the 292 pressure plate. It's a little smaller than the other but has the right splines for the tranny. Can anyone tell me the best place to get the clutch disc? the tranny is from an 89 firebird. Thanx,G

Look up a Vega or Monza clutch disc, right number of splines and I think around the 9.75-10" size.

You should be able to get a cover (pressure plate) for a 10 1/2 of even 11" disc on a 292

I have a 1983 Camero T-5 behind my warmed over 292. I put a Center Force plate in mine. I've heard that these T-5's are not the choice for racing. I've had absolutely no problems with mine for about 10 years. Have about 15,000 miles on it and I "occasionally" dump the clutch when showing how much rubber I can put down. It's held up nicely and has a great smooth action.

I got the '89 firebird tranny. It's got a 15 degree tilt to it which is gonna make a challenge of fabricating a mount for it as well as the shifter is offset the same 15 degrees. I'm gonna cut off the shifter short and make one from a curved elk horn so that it angles back upright to where I want it. As for the pressure plate, the hole diameter in the flywheel kinda limit me there and the pressure plate itself is 10 inches right on so I'd like to stay within that if I can.

I have a Mustang T5 behind a Bent double 4 in the model A.

I'm using a Hays No 95-201 clutch kit (Disc, pressure plate, TO bearing, alignment tool, and IIRC bolts).

I like it for 3 reasons.

1 The clutch pedal effort is nice and soft (I can push it down with one finger).

2 It has about 1/3 of the pedal travel between initial engagement and lockup (unlike some of the "bear trap" sets I've read of).

3 Once it's locked it doesn't slip (locks like a bank vault).

I know you said Chevy and 10" (as opposed to my Ford and 10 1/2) but they must have an equivalent kit that matches a Camaro T5 input and in 10" (I saw various components including a 10" pressure plate in that family as I was undecided on what flywheel I was going to run when I started looking for clutches).

If you don't like the look of the 95-201's disc there are sets with fiber discs available.

Hope that helps.

Little late here---is this in a truck or car---you could use a S-10 tailshaft to solve shifter and mount problems
