Why do the intakes and exhausts on chevy inlines (194 230 250) bolt together. Can I get have an exhaust leak on top of the manifold if they are not bolted tightly? IS this to warm the intake and I guess keep temperature more constant?

Yes you can get a leak if they are not bolted together (with gasket in between).
It is tricky too because you really don't want a leak between head and intake, and bolting the whole thing together you have to be sure of:
1. No leaks intake-to-head - never. Top Priority.
2. No leaks exhaust-to-head - if possible. Next priority.
3. No leaks intake/exhaust manifold - again if possible.

If all surfaces are flat and square it's easy. If not it's tricky.

Yes it is done this way to get heat to the bottom of the intake. The flapper valve in the exhaust is supposed to rotate when warm to help block too much heat. Often the flapper is rusted open or shut.

If you're gonna drive it on the street, then you'll need some form of intake heat. Otherwise, expect a fair amount of low rpm hesitation during acceleration.

Langdon's makes a plate that bolts onto an Offy or stock intake for about $35 that heat's the intake with coolant. It installs easily and comes with some realtively simple directions - HIGHLY recommended.

What intake are you going to use?

If at first you don't succeed,
then read the directions and try again.

I am gunna use and Offy intake, Actually It's on right now but I believe I am experiencing this problem already because of an exhaust leak. Is that responsible to experience this?

What is the 'this' that you're experiencing? Do you have the headers on it currently or are you running a stock exhaust manifold?

Do you have the stock exh manifold bolted to the bottom of the intake?

Yes it is connected with gasket-now. Should this fix the hesitation problem?
