Have a rebuilt 1954 261, 30 over, with S-10 5 speed and 4.10 rear gears in my Chev. PU--use it as a daily driver. I have 2 options sitting in the shop at this time: A stock 1-bbl or a Carter Webber 2-bbl. Suggestions on best carburetor option for now?
Thanks--T.K.

Run the Carter/Weber. I believe potential for better mileage. Progessive carb, correct? What do you guys think?

Yes, progressive, and I agree - primary alone = better mileage and response.

Thanks for the responses--Installed the Carter/Weber, and I am very pleased after first test drive. Will make some adjustments and get it out on the highway soon. Appreciate the advice...T.K.

Dont go too lean in quest of gas mileage at the expense of exhaust valves. Nothing against the little progressive "pinto" carbs with the fancy name, but a single one on a grand champion dump truck motor is an odd concept. Not knowing the venturi sizes of the progressive 2 bbl.- I wonder if it has more or less venturi area than the 1-5/8 stocker. If not then a 235, or even a 216 stocker would be viable too ( but a bird in hand logic is hard to beat).

As you can see from the pictures, the throttle shafts are split, rotated 90° from the common 2 & 4 bbl., and are now parallel to each other. There are 2 opinions as to whether the primary or secondary should face the engine, but they both can't, so any "normal" 2 bbl. adapter or manifold won't work.
