Hello everyone,
I'm new here but not new to Chevy sixes (at least the old 235/261's)I was given a 1982 250 that needs rebuilding. It is an integrated head. Can I use the earlier non integrated head on this engine from a 250 or 292? Do I need to use the pushrods from my current motor or from the engine that the heads came off of? What modifications will I need to make to make this swap ? I'm sure you have covered this before but I couldn't track down the specifics using the search feature.
Thanks in advance.

just unbolt the old head save the rockers and push rods and valves and springs for spares. and bolt on the other head. then tune it to the old spects. you will need to work on the exhaust to get it to match up to the new headers or manifold.

You'll also need the older style valve cover for that head. Either an original Chevy item or one of the aftermarket pieces. For appearance sake I like to avoid the non intergral heads that have the A.I.R. ports above the exhaust ports. Since we don't usually run the smog stuff on our performance engines you end up having to plug the A.I.R. openings and it just looks cluttered.

I have one of those integrated head engines. I was planning on kepting mine since it runs good enough for me. I am adding Hooker headers and high flow exhaust (3 in). I was wondering about the PAIR set up. you knoe the pulse air crap that makes the engine look ugly. Can these be capped off and a old style chrome valve cover used. The truck is now offically 25 years old so it does not require emissions testing anymore. I know I have to kept the catalyic converter to pass safety inspection. I have allready plugged the EGR and truck runs much better with it plugged.

Well if you are looking for a rebuilt head? I know a shop in Tulsa that has a totally rebuilt with new valves, head for $300 with exhange. I could get the number for you! It is a 250 head!
