That truck will make a pretty piece. We can be sure that the 4.10 differential will make it a lot more flexible and useful. It is grand to see a cab on a project in that good condition -- although it must have sat for some time under a leaking roof.
How many miles was it driven before you took hold of it?
Some of us will be delighted to see some more progress on this project!
God's Peace to you.

thanks for the kind words. the po says the truck sat in PA weather for about 5 yrs. after he got sometime in 80s. when i got it last year had a lil' over 9,000 on the od, now it has a lil' over 11,000. the 4.10 is much better on the highway & i've added a front sway bar from cpp. sway bar install & the hole patching i did today are on my webshots link above. Slick looking motor, we've been through Perryville comming back from Petite Jean state park several times. We almost went there last month but its so popular we could not get a site reserved for the whole week so we went to Lake Catherine instead. Will try to look you up next trip up there. I'd love to hear the old stovebolt shake off the pine needles!

With the new gears when the cops pull you over for speeding you can tell them you are going to a fire! Beater

edski you be sure & do that. I always look forward to hanging out with a fellow inliner. there aren't any around locally & of course the typical response around here is "why didn't you put a 350 in it"? beater, believe it or not I may actually have the the opportunity to use that excuse one of these days! I was goofin' off in the driveway one day rappin' the pipes & the tach stopped just short of 6000 rpm! when I let off when there was still some to go! right now now when I hit 65 mph it starts shaking pretty bad. the 7.50-17s' on the back aren't balanced nor is the driveshaft. don't think it ever was. didn't need to be for the road speeds of the time. I take care of those two problems I'd like to see how fast it'd actually go.

It's actually a front swaybar off a ford explorer. fits & works extremely well. rule of thumb is that it has to be lighter weight & more flexible than the one in the front. it compliments the classic performance products bar I have on the front very well. good price too. tax & all was about $38.00 at the local pic n pull.

Be careful - even 1/8" difference in diameter is a big deal. Too big in front just makes it plow, but too big in back will loop it. You know the saying "Oversteer is when the passenger is scared, understeer is when the driver is scared"). If you find one that fits but looks too heavy, you can reduce the rate by lengthening the arms. Factors that increase stiffness: bigger diameter shorter center distance shorter arms links to the suspension closer to the chassis center

you are correct. the front sway bar is from classic performance products & was designed for AD trucks. with that in mind the swaybar I put on the back fit all aforementioned criteria. plus I have the perfect test bed. I live on a mountain. we have all kinds of twisty curvy roads around here. my sway bar combo is woking quite well, especially compared to stock. here's the latest on the truck: http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2508744850106850169sUErQS this was done by a suicidal deer. those of you who have deer in your neck of the woods know sometimes it can't be avioded. literally all I could do to keep from crying!

It's a shame, but been there, done that too. Just be glad it didn't go through the windsheild.

yeah & at least it is fixable. a guy on the bolt posted a picture of his AD suburban panel turned over on side & it was pretty well ruined.

Robert - sorry to see your truck taking a hit like that. Try to remember it is just a truck and be glad you weren't seriously injured. Lots of options for a new fender and door - and the lower cab sheet metal isn't too difficult to make straight again, I have repaired a similar bit of damage to that section of the cab before - not fun, but not difficult either.
Thanks also for the note on the type of sway bar. I have a rear mounted spare to the aft side of the axle and a second fuel tank on the passenger side in front of the axle - so it is a little crowded under there but I'll see what I can do.

no since my lovely wife has bought me a 51 1 ton parts truck for christmas it doesn't smart near as bad. that'll take care of the fenders & doors. a couple boards & maybe a crowbar will indeed push the rocker back out.

Deer... and when you're hunting them you can't find them. I had less than 200 miles on my brand new '89 GMC when a deer jumped off a bank right in front of me. I ruined my favorite Jeep with a "wild" horse as well. Most of the animals in Nevada stand in the road.

bussmann is the brand name on the fuseblock, very common. It's a 10 gang I got on ebay, got a 14 gang on amazon.com. well beater, a deer was bad enough I'm glad I didn't hit a horse.

This may be overkill but driving to Alaska twice a month here's the bumper I use, this years count is 5 deer, 2 elk and 1 Toyota and one trip to go.

Those Toyotas don't seem to have a lick of sense! No matter how much you honk, yell, or "wave" they just stay on the road. It's a wonder you haven't hit more of them.

Wasn't for lack of trying but the deer got in the way.

Yeah, those Toyotas are the worst. Especially the Prius, damn battery acid eats my tires.
