I was wondering if anyone could pass on a good recommendation to get a replacement water pump pulley....

I am replaceing my water pump, and noticed the pulley is a little bent.

Anybody know a good place? junkyard?

Thanks
Chaka

Always the cheap place to hit first is the Boneyards/Junkyards then the part store ,Then the costly place the dealer. If i knew what/which one yours is I probley have more then one sitting around here Now That I made my own/ Modified one to clear damaner Bolt and Relined up pulleys. So all stock ones I have are just sitting around here. SO if you can send me a picture of the one you have. Or send Yours and Pay for Shipping I'll give u one. Just cover shipping. Hope this helps.

Twisted6 or anyone else...

I finally got the water pump pulley back from the store long enough to take a couple of measurements. I thought I would post them to see if you had anything similar. Unfortunately i don't have a pic yet.... but it looks like a bowl with 5 holes in it. Unfortunately i still don't know the make of the pulley.

It is a single groove pulley.
The ring has a 7" diameter,
depth (front to back) is 4 1/2"
Distance from outside hole to outside hole = 1 7/8
4 outside holes have diameter of 3/8"
center hole has diameter of 5/8"
distance from center hole to outside hole= 7/8"

So if anyone has any ideas... i would love to hear from you....

David

Chaka, if it is an OEM pulley on there, clean it off real good with brake clean, etc and there should be a part number on it. According to my parts book it will be one of the following.....

329671......PS-exc AC-Front
3995646.....250 Eng except PS or AC
3995631.....All AC

Hope this helps you out

Dear Chaka;

Spin the pulley on the pump, 1/4" run out is acceptable. You may not need one.

It was working before, right.

Good luck, John M.....

PS: What type of films do you make??

It certainly did work before, however it was bent and the mechanic thought that it was causeing a crack in my alternator bracket. that is why i was trying to replace it.....

Also i realized i didn't include the make of what we thing the engine originally came from... we thing it came from a '73 el camino or pickup (it is 4X4).

and as for the films, I make documentaries...about just about everything....

Okay try; Tom's Truck Parts, in Maimi, Ok. His # is: 918.542.3871 if It still wobbels on new pump.

That condition would/will cause things to break.

A friends film (feature)is up for a PRISM award this Thursday on the F/X channel. You may have heard of it PURGATORY HOUSE. It's been all around the film festival circuit and was voted #4 pic of 2004.

Thanks for the info...

By the way, while at the parts store i asked the guy to tell me what other cars/trucks came with the L250 (in 1973). I am sure this list is not exhaustive but the three I came out with was the el camino, camaro, and c10 pickup. apparently they all take the same water pump. so in theory i should be able to take a water pump pulley from any of those vehicles and mount it to mine right?

I had not seen purgatory house, but will keep my eyes open for it

Right, it will be easy to find. Just take your old one with you to be sure.

So I think we are coming to the end of my saga... i soaked the old pulley for 2 hours today cleaning it up... and low and behold there is a part number... it is 3927797 AF

anybody know if this is easy to come by? i have a few leads on ebay and otherwise.... but if you guys have a favorite person that you would like to give the business to or have one laying around your place... let me know...

thanks
Dave

Be careful when you get your new water pump! Maybe this is common knowlage, but it caught me by surprize-I got the pump the book said I needed, and it had the wrong bolt pattern for my pulleys. Of course I didn't notice this until it was all painted and installed and well, ready to put the pulley on. I went through about a dozen pulleys around here and they were all the same, wrong for that pump. I ended up getting a W/P that had both bolt patterns, after much searching at the NAPA store. And now I have a spare that is no good to me.
