Hello.I have a 67 chevy truck with a 292 engine.Just got a new offy intake and Langdons headers. My problem is I purchased a Holley 390 carb used. The PO had run it on a 2300 4 cyl.The carb has sat for approx 1 year. What is the best way to clean up the outside of the carb body.It will look bad as is if I put it on the intake now.Spray cleaner and small wire brush, lots of elbow grease, and time? This is an older carb probably out of the 80s(ie Pinto.)A rebuild is in order for internals but outside is nasty looking.Ideas?Thanks.Muley

A can (1 gallon) of parts dip cleaner. They have a metal basket inside to hold small parts for dipping, just dont leave them in too long, some of those cleaners will eat up the metal if left in too long.

Engine degreaser in a spray can, spray it on,use a paint brush, & acid bruch for tighter areas, to scrub everywhere, then rinse off with high pressure water nozzle.

I hope your 390 is a list # 8007, there is another one with a 6299? It is set up for small engines, not good for us.

Tlowe, yes sir,it is an 8007.Just an older one.The PO ran it on a 4 banger 2300 with crane cam.His wife drove the car and said, every time I stop somebody wanted to race! The PO was an older man, very decent guy.He had to replace two screws from one of the fuel bowls w/1/4"20 rod for his linkage.Id just like to clean up before installation.Btw,soak in the cleaner how long?Ive asked several people, got different answers. Thanks for all replies. Muley
