so anyhow as you guys know I am still slapping this 261 rebuild and truck overhaul together as of this summer, but I bought 2 of those carter webber carbs from tom langdon and I only have two, I cut a piece of metal to seal the center carb and just have two if I have to but I think I might be looking for a third soon, so I am curious what model number are those carter webber progressive two barrels so that I might be able to locate one as it appears on Toms website that he is only selling them in pairs now, so people with triple offy intakes are kinda boned I guess lol. So if anyone here can lead me in the right direction so that I might find one that would be great

IIRC the basic model number from Holley is 5200, and I believe there are several variations of that. I have a manual for the 5200, but couldn't find at the moment.

Earlier this week, we ordered one carb and two adapters from Tom. We also have two and were looking for a third. He said he would ship them to us.

I guess I am just kinda worried because I am concerned if having just two of these carbs run on the outboard carbs with just a plate covering the middle wont be enough like it will just run out of CFM really soon, do ya guys think that this might cause major leaning out issues for the middle port? Do ya guys think it will run ok like this and not cause any issues with the motor until I get around to putting the third one on? its a bored over 261 with a medium performance cam and ported and polished head.

2 carbs on a 3 carb manifold is not something I would do, even "for now".

would it cause serious problems at all? I am a wee bit concerned now, I mean stock carb runs the two end ports with a centrally located carb only so that was kinda my logic like two is better at avoiding starvation than one. Thanks in advance again

Hi dbane261 . . .
Serious is a matter of perspective. The issue is potential fuel starvation in the center most cylinders.
The stock single manifold is designed with a hot spot right at the base of the carb. This tends to fill the log manifold with a good fuel air mixture. Yet, even with this design the spark plugs from the outer cylinders can read leaner then then center ones (by coloration) depending on tuning/jetting, operating temperature, weather etc.
Herein lies the potential problem with two carbs on something like an Offy trip. It is designed to have a carb base above each exit from the log into the head - effectively a dedicated one barrel carb per intake port - with the log providing just balance. Plugging the center carb inlet could cause the center cylinders to run lean - especially when cold.
I agree with 41 Coupe: talk to Tom Langdon about the setup you have in mind. If a 3rd carb is really needed he's got them.

I don't think two carbs on a three carb manifold would be deleterious to your engine. Maybe not optimal, but based on my dual-two barrels on my 12-port Ford head there is little-to-none distribution issues. I know not exactly an apples-to-apples comparison, but one could argue my setup would cause 5 & 2 holes to be fatter than the rest.
